Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that it is a huge boost for Newcastle to get Callum Wilson back to action in the final few weeks of the season.

Wilson remains Newcastle United’s top scorer in the Premier League, despite not featuring this calendar year for his side. He picked up an injury against Manchester United in the latter stages of December, which has seen him sidelined since, but he has started training again and is expected to return before the end of the season.

Since the forward’s injury, Newcastle recruited well in January and have been in fine form in the Premier League. The have lost just twice out of their last 11 fixtures, but it will still be a big boost for Eddie Howe to get his main striker back.

While speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Pete O’Rourke highlighted how much of a boost it will be for Howe to get Wilson back fit.

“It’s a brilliant boost for Newcastle to have Callum Wilson fit for the final few weeks of the season,” O’Rourke said.

With the potential return for Wilson, we noted two knock-on effects that it may have on Newcastle.

Huge boost for Eddie Howe

It will be a massive boost for Howe to get his top scorer back fit before the end of the season – he scored six times in 15 Premier League games before his injury and is a real poacher in front of goal after all six of his finishes have come from inside the box.

Howe signed Chris Wood from Burnley to act as an immediate replacement for Wilson but has failed to make things work in terms of goals so far in a Magpies shirt having netted just once in 10 starts so far. Having Wilson back in this new-look Newcastle side should make the Magpies faithful excited as his goals will make them an even stronger force.

Allan Saint-Maximin will be delighted

Allan Saint-Maximin was out injured for just over a month but returned to action at the start of the month and things haven’t quite gone swimmingly well for him. He has failed to score or assist in his last six games in the Premier League, albeit only coming off the bench in their recent two games.

Before this recent drop in form, Saint-Maximin scored five goals and registered three assists for his side in 20 league games, so he will be hoping that amid Wilson’s return, he can get back to his best.
