Journalist Dean Jones has said that the future for Newcastle loan signing Matt Targett is uncertain as he is keeping his options open in the summer.

Matt Targett was soon shipped off to Newcastle United on loan by Steven Gerrard in January as he brought in Lucas Digne from Everton. Targett has featured seven times for Newcastle this season in the Premier League and contributed to the Magpies’ good form, as he has only lost twice in league proceedings so far for his new side.

Interestingly, the Magpies reportedly don’t have a clause to sign the defender permanently at the end of his current deal, so it remains to be seen as to what will happen.

However, even if Newcastle do offer Targett a permanent deal at St James’s Park, Dean Jones has spoken to GIVEMESPORT and said that the left-back may be looking elsewhere if there is interest from other clubs.

“I know that he is open to other options,” Brown said.

TIF Thoughts on Matt Targett…

Targett has started in all 24 of the Premier League games that he has featured in this season, whilst having an impressive stat of 0 errors that have led to opposition goals, as per Sofascore. He’s been in particularly good form as of late having achieved a player rating of 7.8 against Southampton and 7 against Chelsea already this month.

He currently ranks as the fourth best player for the Magpies this season in terms of rating, in which he has found himself averaging an impressive 1.9 tackles per game, 1 interception per game and 2.9 clearances (WhoScored), as well as posing a threat in the final third as he currently tops the rankings for key passes per game with 1.9.

But, with this impressive form there may be other clubs showing an interest which could see his price rise if the Magpies want to sign him permanently, with Targett supposedly keeping these options open.
