Journalist Keith Downie has claimed that Paul Dummett is keen to stay at St James’s Park after the recent resurgence of form at Newcastle United.

Paul Dummett has struggled this season due to injury issues, which has made it difficult for him to really nail down a spot in the side.

Indeed, he has been out of favour at Newcastle since and has been an unused substitute in the last five times he’s been involved in the squad, as per Sofascore.

However, Keith Downie has spoken to GIVEMESPORT and said that despite not being involved heavily with the first team, he will be desperate to stay with Newcastle.

“Paul Dummett will be desperate to stay here. I met him the other day, and he’s loving what’s happening at the club right now. He’s a local boy, a Newcastle fan, and wants to be part of it.” Downie said.

TIF Thoughts on Keith Downie’s comments…

Paul Dummett has been a loyal servant for Newcastle over the past 11 seasons, having made over 200 appearances for the club after coming through their youth system.

However, with the new Saudi takeover at Newcastle, perhaps it will be even more difficult for players like Dummett to really be able to nail down a permanent spot due to the new, higher calibre of players potentially coming in. Especially as Matt Targett, who operates at left-back where Dummett can play, appears to be signing permanently.

And, with his contract set to run out in the summer, it remains to be seen as to whether Eddie Howe really sees a future for the defender at St James’ Park.
