Sky Sports’ Joe Thomlinson has taken to Twitter to praise Liverpool’s Joel Matip after his latest impressive performance.
Liverpool picked up one of their biggest wins of the season last night as they went to the Emirates to face an Arsenal side who had not lost in their last six league matches and managed to record an emphatic 2-0 victory.

While duo Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino stole the show with their important goals, it was the seventh clean sheet in eight matches the Jurgen Klopp’s men have managed to keep in the Premier League.
The performance of the defence didn’t go unnoticed with Thomlinson heaping praise on Matip in particular claiming he is ‘one of the most underrated players in world football.’

While Thomlinson may be correct that Matip is an extremely underrated defender, this season appears to be the one that people have started noticing him a lot more which was highlighted recently as he picked up February’s Player of the Month award.
His stats last night were very impressive and he deservedly picked up Man of the Match. He achieved a passing percentage of 87% over the 90 minutes, as well as making seven clearances, one blocked shot and one tackle (as per SofaScore).
Matip arrived at Anfield back in 2016 from FC Schalke and what makes him an even more impressive signing is that he joined as a free agent so he perhaps could end up going down as one of the best signings in Liverpool’s recent history, especially considering he’s been part of their sides that won both the Champions League and Premier League.
