Phil Hay has been speaking about the team huddle that Jesse Marsch organised after Leeds United’s defeat last week.

It was Marsch’s first game as manager of Leeds United, with neither him nor his players doing themselves a disservice as they probably should have won the game, finishing it with an xG of 1.9 and forcing Kasper Schmeichel into four saves.

Will Leeds be relegated?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Despite how well Leeds played and the difference between them under Marsch and Marcelo Bielsa, it was what happened after full time that grabbed the attention of many people across the country as Marsch got his team into a huddle in the middle of the pitch.

Hay has addressed the situation and offered his thoughts while speaking on The Phil Hay Show.

“Is the huddle gonna become like the bucket, do you think? Mind you, the bucket was very popular so I think on that basis, no.

“It didn’t seem like a particularly big deal to me. I know the inclination is to look at it and think of it as very American or the sort of thing that Americans might do, but it felt more like something that kind of happened off the cuff at the end of his first game.”

TIF Thoughts on Marsch…

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

Many people may have caused such a commotion over the huddle as it’s not soring that is seen very often in English football, especially not after a defeat as most managers and players just want to get down the tunnel and into the dressing room, but clearly, Marsch wanted to try something different just in the moment.

What was said after the match is unclear, but it will have likely not been anything too different to what he would’ve told them within the dressing room, so getting everyone together when they’re still focused after just finishing the game may be something that is picked up by other managers.
