Leeds United reporter Conor McGilligan has given his thoughts on reports that have surfaced about Raphinha.

The Brazilian’s future at the club has been in doubt for some time, as his performances both this year and last have reportedly earned him attention from some of the biggest names in world football.

Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Barcelona have all been mentioned as possible destinations for him, but it is the last name that has caused a bit of a stir recently.

According to Sport, the Camp Nou outfit might look at using 22-year-old Spanish defender Oscar Mingueza in a part-exchange offer in order to reduce the initial transfer value that they would need to pay.

Taking to Twitter, McGilligan expressed his frustration over the claims, suggesting that Leeds United wouldn’t be getting what could be perceived as fair value for the deal, because the inclusion of a player – who he also appears not to be a fan of – would drag down the fee that Leeds would get for the Brazilian.

He wrote: “Not on board with this, essentially means Barca would get a reduced value and send a CB our way, who isn’t all that.”

Is this deal fair value for Raphinha?

McGilligan’s stance is somewhat understandable given the circumstances. Given how important someone like Raphinha is to the Leeds United side, if they are indeed forced to sell him this summer, they should at least get back enough money for them to bring in someone else to replace him adequately.

And if they aren’t getting the full whack in terms of value for him, especially if it’s for a player that might not be up to scratch as McGilligan hints at, they aren’t getting fair compensation for him.

The same report does state that Raphinha has apparently already agreed to a five-year deal in Spain, so it looks as if the deal is some way to being made complete, but we’ll have to wait and see if the two sides can come to an agreement over the transfer fee first.
