Journalist Phil Hay has confirmed that Jesse Marsch has said that Patrick Bamford’s injury isn’t serious after he was forced off last night against Wolves.

Patrick Bamford started for just the second time this year against Wolves last night, but he was forced off in the 23rd minute due to another injury. After the English forward had been sidelined for so long, you could see what coming off meant to him as footage emerged of him in tears on the Leeds bench.

Bamford’s absence could arguably be what has gone wrong for Leeds this season, as last year he scored 17 Premier League goals which helped his side finish in the top half of the league, in their first season back in the top flight for 16 years.

The 28-year-old’s emotions on the sideline looked to be an indication of how severe the injury may be, but Phil Hay has taken to Twitter to confirm that it might not be as bad as it first looked.

“Bamford – Marsch doesn’t think it’s serious. “Not too bad” were his words,” Hay reported.

TIF Thoughts on Patrick Bamford and Phil Hay’s comments…

Alongside other key players for Leeds this season, such as Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips, Bamford has been a major miss for the Whites as they have struggled to find any sort of form without their main men, and currently sit 16th in the Premier League.

Last season, Bamford averaged a goal every 180 minutes, and not only did he contribute with 17 goals in the Premier League, but he also assisted his teammates seven times. Leeds have seriously missed their focal point up-front this season, who started in 37 of the 38 Premier League games last campaign, compared to this season, where he has started just seven times out of their 30 games.

If Leeds do go on to get relegated, Bamford’s stats last season will likely be more than enough to get the English forward a move back to the Premier League, so if Marsch wants to keep his man next year, then he will almost definitely have to ensure Premier League safety.

The news that Bamford’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared should have people at Thorp Arch delighted.
