Jesse Marsch was left an animated figure at the weekend as he took to the dugout for the first time since taking over as the Leeds United manager.

The Whites were unable to deliver the three points in the American’s debut game as Leeds boss, however, journalist Graham Smyth did keep an eye on his touchline antics.

And Marsch was left frustrated on occasions, as his side were unable to make any headway in their relegation battle, with 18th-placed Burnley still just two points behind and with a game in hand.

Smyth believes the American was left furious with Junior Firpo when the left-back threw the ball deep into his own half from a throw-in.

With the 48-year-old frustrated by the Dominican Republic born defender’s negative play, Smyth recalled the incident from his view in the press box at the King Power Stadium:

“He was exasperated when Junior Firpo sent a throw-in deep into his own half and later spent a good few moments in deep conversation with the left-back,” Smyth wrote for the Yorkshire Evening Post.

He added: “When another throw went backwards, Marsch let his defender know he accepted that decision because it looked the only real option.”

TIF Thoughts on Smyth’s comments…

We think it is small details such as this that may provide Leeds supporters with some optimism over the appointment of the American, with an awful lot at stake in the remaining 11 games of the campaign.

Ultimately, the Whites left the game empty-handed in terms of points, however, it is apparent the 48-year-old is already demanding more from his players from the sideline and trying to implement his ideas on them.

It seems the game on Saturday did see an improved display from Leeds in comparison to their final four games of February, with plenty of chances created at the King Power Stadium.

And with Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips set to return to the starting XI soon, there could be some cause for optimism among the Leeds fanbase.
