Journalist Conor McGilligan has slammed Leeds United defender Junior Firpo for a lack of discipline in his first season at the club.

Over the summer, the left-back was brought in from Barcelona for a fee reported to be in the region of £13m. Since then, he has gone on to be a regular player in the Leeds setup, featuring in 19 of the club’s Premier League games to date.

However, it seems as though he hasn’t always been able to get through each game in total control as he has racked up a total of nine yellow cards in that time.

While talking about the player on the One Leeds Fan Channel on YouTube, it seems as though his indiscipline is a particular frustration for McGilligan.

He said: “The guy with yellow cards and indiscipline, it’s seriously, seriously bad.

“And when you’re playing a pressing system, and you’re indisciplined like that, you’re in real, real danger all the time.

“For me, there’s been several occasions this season where I’ve thought, ‘He’s going to get sent off here’.”

TIF Thoughts on Junior Firpo and Leeds…

Up to this point in the season, no Premier League player has picked up more bookings than Firpo – so it’s fair to see why McGilligan has raised this concern.

Interestingly enough, the left-back has picked up four of those cards in his last five outings, which could suggest an over-eagerness to impress new manager Jesse Marsch.

At the very least, however, Firpo has not picked up two yellows in the same game, nor has he received a straight red card.

For now, he seems to just about be treading on the right side of the law, but should he pick up another yellow before, or during, Leeds’ trip to Watford, he will pick up a ban, which will only cause more frustration.
