Tottenham Hotspur attacker Steven Bergwijn may be concerned to hear there are no plans to sell Lucas Moura this summer.

In the January transfer market, Spurs signed Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, who has already made a pretty positive impact at the club.

While this may have improved Tottenham’s attack, it has not been good news for either Lucas or Bergwijn, who have lost minutes to a player who operates in the same area of the pitch as them.

Despite that, in a recent article from Football Insider, it was claimed that Spurs have no intention of selling the Brazilian in the summer. This is great news for Lucas, but it could leave his Dutch teammate in a little trouble.

Rumours already exist

When Kulusevski arrived in the winter, at one point, it looked as though he would be an immediate replacement for Bergwijn.

Indeed, he may well have been sold to Ajax in the most recent transfer market had Daniel Levy been happy to accept a lower bid for the player they previously paid PSV Eindhoven £27m for.

As the player has already been subject to such transfer negotiations in the past, it seems more than likely that the situation could remain the same in the summer.

With Kulusevski starting so well to life in north London, and Lucas seemingly not up for sale, Bergwijn may be the man to offload.

Forget recent form

One thing that could impact Bergwijn’s future is his recent form while on international duty. The 24-year-old has impressed in the current international break and managed to net a brace for Holland in a 4-2 win over Denmark.

Coming into that game, Bergwijn had managed just five minutes of football in his last three Premier League outings. With that in mind, despite his recent form for his nation, his club minutes may not vastly improve between now and the end of the season.

However, if a side like Ajax are keeping tabs on his progress – having wanted to sign him in January – his goalscoring feats with the Netherlands would surely have done him no harm.

TIF Verdict…

Even though Kulusevski has only been at the club for a short while, he has only played two fewer minutes than Bergwijn for Spurs this season – while Lucas is way ahead of both as the seventh-most used player at the club this term.

All in all, it’s hard to see why the Dutchman would be preferred over the other two in Antonio Conte’s plans.

Taking everything into account, it looks as though his time in a Tottenham shirt could be coming to an end sooner rather than later.
