Tony Scott has been speaking on the All Together Now podcast about Everton’s current sponsorship issues.

Everton came out with a statement yesterday announcing they were cutting all ties with their Russian sponsors including USM, Yota and Megafon – with the latter being removed from outside of Goodison Park last night.

Will Lampard keep Everton up?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

This is because Alisher Usmanov, who’s pumped money into Everton via sponsoring their training ground and had agreed to buy the naming rights for their new stadium, has had his assets frozen and is the founder of USM.

Scott has claimed that Everton will now lose £20m per season through the club cutting ties with USM.

He said: “The match programme will also be reprinted to remove the Russian-related sponsorship – that alone will cost Everton £500,000, but the big implications of that is that we are believed to hear that it is £20m per season USM provides Everton with. So Everton, they’re in a desperate search for sponsorships today.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton’s decision…

Greg O’Keeffe from The Athletic has written a line claiming that a line in the sand had to be drawn by the ‘The People’s Club’, which is correct as they had to show their morals and that money wouldn’t come before football and human life, especially when they have a Ukrainian in the form of Vitalii Mykolenko in their squad.

However, from a business point of view, it now leaves Everton and the board in a tough position having to likely scramble around for a new sponsor that is willing to contribute as much money as Usmanov was, which will only be made more difficult given potential sponsors will want a guarantee that the Toffees will be in the Premier League next season.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

With Everton just one point and a place above the bottom three, this is far from a certainty.
