Fabrizio Romano has provided Newcastle United with a potential boost ahead of the summer transfer window over the future of Jesse Lingard.

The Italian was speaking on his Here We Go podcast, where he has claimed the Manchester United ace will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

There have been questions over the midfielder’s future as he will now remain at Manchester United for the final six months of his deal having stayed put during the January window.

However, Eddie Howe’s side did test the Red Devils in trying to secure the services of the 29-year-old on loan until the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

And with Romano claiming the midfielder wanted to leave in January to complete a move to Newcastle, the insider had the following to say on Lingard’s future:

“I’m told that Jesse Lingard’s plan is clear. He’s prepared to leave. He wanted to leave on Deadline Day to join Newcastle. This didn’t happen because of Mason Greenwood’s situation, it changed in the future of Jesse Lingard. But in June, he’s already looking for options.”

TIF Thoughts on Lingard’s future…

There are a number of clubs that are being linked with the Englishman already. Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are two sides believed to be interested in the midfielder.

It is expected the Toon’s Premier League status will play a big role in being able to attract players like Lingard next season, but the ambitious plans on Tyneside are certainly present.

Howe’s side could certainly put in a good claim for the midfielder financially, so a strong end to the season could strengthen Lingard’s attraction to St. James’ Park.
