Dermot Gallagher has been speaking on Sky Sports about the penalty decision which didn’t go Everton’s way at the weekend.

Despite Everton’s atrocious recent run of form, which has seen them win once in their previous nine league matches, they were competitive against the champions on Saturday evening and potentially could have taken a point from the game.

Should Everton have had a penalty?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

However, that chance was seemingly ripped away from them when the referee and VAR team decided that Rodri didn’t handle the ball in the penalty box, despite it looking rather clear and obvious.

Former Premier League referee Gallagher spoke on Sky Sports about the decision.

He said: “It is a penalty, there’s no doubt about that, I feel that VAR inspected it for too long and I think what’s happened, you can see the pictures, I thought it was a penalty at first calling and when you see the replays, there’s nothing to change my mind.”

TIF Thoughts on the penalty decision…

With the game at 1-0 and Everton desperately fighting for their lives against relegation they can’t afford referees and officials to be getting big calls such as this one wrong as it appeared to be a very easy decision for at least one official to make.

However, the Toffees were not awarded a spot-kick and they ended up losing the game 1-0 which now sees them sit one place and one point above the bottom three and have some tough fixtures coming up against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves.
