Journalist Pete O’Rourke has said that Everton loanee Anwar El Ghazi could benefit from Andros Townsend’s injury.

El Ghazi joined Everton on loan in January for the remainder of the season, when former Toffees boss Rafa Benitez brought him in from Aston Villa, but he has failed to make an impact since his move, as he has featured just twice, with both appearances coming from the bench.

Before his move to Goodison Park, he started just four times for Aston Villa in the first half of the season, but he could see his game time increased under Frank Lampard at Everton after Andros Townsend’s injury will see him out for the rest of the campaign.

With Townsend’s injury woes, O’Rourke spoke to GIVEMESPORT and said that the Dutch winger may get his chance following his teammate’s injury.

“I think El Ghazi could maybe benefit from Townsend’s injury,” O’Rourke said.

TIF Thoughts on Pete O’Rourke’s comments…

El Ghazi was seriously out of favour this season for Aston Villa, and Steven Gerrard opted to send him out on loan, but things haven’t gone to plan since his loan move to Goodison as he has been an unused substitute in five out of his last seven games for the Toffees.

Last season, the 26-year-old scored 10 Premier League goals in 26 games, and 11 of those appearances came from the bench, so he has proven that he can perform in the top flight, it just seems he hasn’t been given a chance so far this term.

With Everton sitting just one place above the drop zone and with Townsend sidelined for the remainder of the season, this could be El Ghazi’s opportunity as Frank Lampard may be looking to change things up in the search for some much-needed points to keep his side in the Premier League.
