Noted West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has given his thoughts on Tammy Abraham and the club failing to sign him last summer.

Reports last summer seemed to suggest that West Ham United were one of a number of Premier League clubs that were interested in taking Abraham away from Chelsea last summer, a club where he had struggled to get a foothold in the first-team during the latter half of the 2020/21 season.

He eventually signed with Italian side AS Roma and has been doing incredibly well there, with 23 goals in 40 games for Jose Mourinho’s side, impressing his current side so much that they have reportedly slapped a £100m price tag on his head.

A staple of FIFA Ultimate Team in 2012, which Nigerian striker had a disastrous spell at the Hammers?

Speaking about Abraham during a Q&A special of the West Ham Way podcast, Ex, whilst backing up the claim that they were interested in him, expressed his dismay that the club didn’t do enough to try and get him to sign with them, insisting that they could have done even if the 24-year-old had some reservations about joining them:

“I still can’t get over the fact we didn’t sign him. I mean, in slight defence of that, I don’t think he wanted to join us eventually. I think we did speak to him and he was saying he wasn’t that keen on joining West Ham.

“But I think we could have, I think we could have done something about that definitely. If we offered him the right amount of money, and made him feel on top of the world. I mean it was a massive miss, I said it at the time and I still believe it now.”

TIF Thoughts on ExWHUemployee’s comments about Tammy Abraham and West Ham United…

Would Abraham have made an impact this season?

Given how West Ham United have been crying out for some time to add a centre-forward to their ranks, Abraham certainly would have added something to the Hammers side that they would have needed this term as a rotation option for Michail Antonio.

Obviously they have missed the boat now, unless they decide to splash out on the £100m to sign him, but seeing as that would more than double their record transfer fee that seems unlikely.

This should really act as a lesson learned for the Hammers that if they really want someone, as Ex hints at, they shouldn’t be scared to throw everything that they can at the player in order to get them to sign. Let’s just hope that they take that lesson on board during the upcoming transfer window when you would imagine they will be looking for another centre-forward to add to the ranks.
