George Caulkin has been speaking about the potential development PIF have in mind for Newcastle United’s St. James’ Park on Pod on the Tyne.

Newcastle have been playing at St. James’ Park and its 52,000-plus capacity since 2000, even when they’ve been relegated into the lower divisions of English football, however, that could be about to change if demand for home match tickets remains as high as it is now.

Should Newcastle expand St James' Park?

Yes!

No!

No!

Caulkin conducted an exclusive interview with Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Amanda Staveley for The Athletic in which they confirmed that plans to expand St. James’ Park will be looked at, instead of building an entirely new stadium.

Caulkin revealed what he’s been told about a potential expansion of St. James’ Park.

He said: “There are ways now that stadiums can be improved. They did all those feasibility studies years and years ago, and it looked very, very difficult, but I’m just very pleased that they’re going to look at it.”

TIF Thoughts on a potential St. James’ Park development…

Newcastle United have sold out their last five home matches and their upcoming fixture on Saturday against Brighton & Hove Albion was declared a sell-out several weeks ago, so we could yet see PIF increase the capacity of St. James’ Park to cater for the demand.

It’s quite a feat that the Magpies are considering expanding a 52,000-capacity stadium for a side that’s only known relegation battles over the past few years and not won any meaningful piece of silverware for decades.
