Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has sent a message of support on Instagram to teammate Calum Chambers after his recent display.
During the January transfer market, the defender made the move to Birmingham to become a Villan, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Naturally, still settling into his new club, Chambers would have been delighted to play a part in his side’s 4-0 home thrashing of Southampton over the weekend. Indeed, for Villa’s second goal, the centre-back provided a magical pass with the outside of his foot to help set up Philippe Coutinho, who then claimed an assist for Douglas Luiz.

After the win, the new signing took to Instagram to share his joy. In a picture of himself hugging Martinez, he added the caption: “Very enjoyable afternoon down Villa Park and a great shift from the lads.”
His goalkeeper was happy to dish out the praise for his teammate, as he commented: “What a performance from you.”
TIF Thoughts on Calum Chambers and Aston Villa…
Since joining Aston Villa, Chambers has played in four Premier League games for his new side, but that was the first he has won. In fact, in his other two starts, he had lost 1-0 on both occasions.
With that in mind, he would have likely been relieved and ecstatic to finally get a victory. It should come as no great surprise that Martinez was one of the first to congratulate his teammate. After all, he too spent plenty of years as an Arsenal player.
It’s also nice to see other current Gunners players – such as Alexandre Lacazette and Rob Holding – also sending kind messages to Chambers despite him leaving their team in the winter.
