Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson has been speaking on the Football Daily YouTube channel about how he expects Dominic Calvert-Lewin to leave Everton this summer.

Everton are currently in a whole host of trouble sitting just one place and point above the bottom three going into Monday night’s Premier League clash, and luckily watched on as relegation rivals Burnley were beaten 4-0 on Saturday, ensuring the Toffees couldn’t go into the bottom three after this round of fixtures.

Will Lampard keep Everton up?

There are clearly a lot of problems at Everton, including overspending on players in the last few years, losing the backing of Alisher Usmanov and having won just one league game away from home all season. However, something more alarming will be the form of star striker Calvert-Lewin, who is still yet to score since his return from injury in January.

And despite Calvert-Lewin’s poor form, Thomlinson believes that the striker will leave the Toffees this season, whether they are relegated or not.

With the panel putting forward Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas as a fine addition amid a potential Everton overhaul in the summer, Thomlinson suggested this would be on the basis of the England striker leaving Goodison Park.

He said: “And is this on the presumption that Dominic is going to leave? Like, I think we can all agree, right, that Calvert-Lewin – he’s got to go in the summer.”

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

The England international was in red-hot form last season netting 16 league goals – a career-best for Calvert-Lewin – and after three strikes in his opening three league matches, it looked like this season could have been even better. However, an injury saw him miss 17 games of the campaign.

Despite missing the majority of this season, Calvert-Lewin was still being linked with a move away from Goodison Park, with Arsenal credited with an interest in the striker. He would fit the bill of young English talent that Mikel Arteta is nurturing at the Emirates Stadium to good effect this season.

So, if Everton are to be relegated, there’s no way Calvert-Lewin remains at Goodison Park – and even if they beat the drop, he may well wish to be challenging at the right end of the table going forward and not risk another relegation battle.
