Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that a potential departure of Matty Cash could allow funds to sign Philippe Coutinho on a permanent deal from Barcelona.

Matty Cash has been the mainstay right-back for Aston Villa this season, he has started in 29 Premier League games whilst chipping in with three goals and three assists, according to Transfermarkt. There have been reports that Matty Cash could leave Villa Park in the summer, and Steven Gerrard may be happy to let him go.

Steven Gerrard has shown that he is not scared to get rid of players when he shipped off Matt Targett to Newcastle in January, and if the English boss feels like he can use the funds for Cash elsewhere then he may have no second thoughts about selling him.

With, Philippe Coutinho is only at Villa on loan for the remainder of the season, Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT, that the money from the sale of Cash could be enough to fund the Brazilian star on a permanent deal.

“It would be a great deal for Villa because I think they would see him as a player that they can replace. Also, that money can basically fund a transfer for Coutinho and I think that’s one way to look at that,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’s comments…

Philippe Coutinho has impressed during his time back in the Premier League with Aston Villa having produced four goals and three assists in 10 Premier League games, according to Transfermarkt. The Brazilian has an average player rating of 7.24 in his last five Premier League games and is the highest ranked player at the club for player ratings.

Matty Cash has been one of the Villans’ key performers this season and finds himself third for player ratings, as well as averaging 0.9 shots per game, 71% passing accuracy, 1.5 interceptions, 2.6 tackles and 2.4 clearances per game (as per SofaScore). However, Callum Chambers can play at right-back and Frederic Guilbert has been very impressive at his loan club so far this season, so there are cover options for Steven Gerrard.
