Sunderland’s Jack Clarke showed what he can do as he bagged his first goal for the club last night.

The 21-year-old has always been someone that has always struggled to get in the first team for any club that he has played for – best demonstrated by the fact he’s only managed to make 62 appearances in first-team football since making his debut back in the 2018/19 season.

His latest effort to get some regular minutes under his belt has seen him move to the Stadium of Light on loan until the end of the season, where his struggles have continued, as despite making nine appearances since his move, he has only managed to start three games for the Black Cats following their game against Fleetwood Town last night.

However, he gave manager Alex Neil something to think about last night and possibly a reason to start more games as he scored his first goal for the club with a rather impressive effort.

Footage posted online (from Sky Sports) showed his strike, taking the ball on the left flank and cutting inside before rifling a shot into the far corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Will Sunderland return to the Championship this season?

Having not had the greatest run of opportunities during his career so far to impress his respective managers wherever he has played, Clarke is someone who was always going to need that one moment to sparkle and show what he can offer – and last night was exactly that.

Whether or not it does lead to more opportunities in the Sunderland side between now and the end of his loan, we’ll have to wait and see. But he’s certainly made a pretty convincing case in front of the manager last night.
