Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to add to their midfield in the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The reporter was speaking on the Essential Football Podcast to discuss Antonio Conte’s options in midfield following their impressive win at the weekend.

Have you been impressed by Bentancur so far?

Spurs were able to take all three points from their away trip to Manchester City last Saturday, with a midfield pairing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur being fielded by the Italian.

However, Bridge believes Conte will be looking for further improvements to his midfield options in the summer, with a number of his players from that area departing in the January window.

He said: “Tottenham do need some serious work in that midfield. I think they need to upgrade it. I think they’ll upgrade it in the summer; from what I’ve been told, that’s the area they’re going to really look to change.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs’ midfield options…

Spurs added Bentancur in January and the Uruguayan has already claimed a spot in Conte’s starting XI with Oliver Skipp out through injury.

Conte is clearly a big fan of Skipp, and with Hojbjerg a regular part of the Spurs XI, we will be interested to see how Conte deals with keeping the three midfielders happy.

Harry Winks found himself out of the starting XI on Saturday after what seemed to be a bright start under Conte, and given that a number of Spurs’ on-loan midfielders could see their moves made permanent, a big summer could be ahead for the Tottenham midfield.

There is a clear lack of creativity in the midfield options Conte has left at Spurs with just two assists between them, so we will be interested to see how Conte looks to develop his midfield over the summer.
