The Athletic journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke has been speaking on The View From The Lane podcast to discuss Daniel Levy’s role at Tottenham Hotspur.

Antonio Conte’s squad is now set for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign, with two new faces coming in over the January transfer window.

Levy in or Levy out?

However, with question marks over their business last month with more players departing than arriving, Pitt-Brooke has suggested Levy was heavily involved in the deal to bring Conte to Spurs rather than Fabio Paratici.

Paratici was brought in last summer to be the new director of football in north London, but Pitt-Brooke believes Levy had a bigger role than the Italian in bringing Conte to north London in November.

Amid the frustrations among the fans regarding Levy’s role at the club, Pitt-Brooke had the following to say on Levy’s influence on the Conte appointment, despite the chairman rarely being present at Hotspur Way:

“This year, Levy has barely really been there [Hotspur Way], it has been very much left to Paratici and previously and until last week, [Steve] Hitchen, to talk to both Nuno [Espirito Santo] and Conte.

“That said, ultimately, the decision to replace Nuno with Conte, which a lot of people to put down to Paratici, I think it was more to do with Levy than it was to do with Paratici.

“It was driven by Levy, he lined it up, he got it done. So I think Levy absolutely deserves credit on that point.”

TIF Thoughts on Levy at Spurs…

The frustrations among Spurs fans are clear following the January transfer window, with a lack of spending clearly the main factor of the protests outside of the Hotspur Way training ground.

It is believed Paratici led the appointment of Espirito Santo last summer which ultimately ended in disaster, with the Portuguese manager out of the job after a matter of months.

And although Levy may have been credited with the appointment of Conte by Pitt-Brooke, does this not add further question marks over his decision-making in the appointment of Paratici?

Paratici has previously worked with Conte during their time with Juventus, but it’s believed Levy was the one who was able to seal the deal for the 52-year-old manager, so you have to wonder whether Paratici’s arrival has been of benefit to Spurs in light of this recent claim.
