Image for Celtic: James Dornan praises Liel Abada

Scottish politician James Dornan has heaped some pretty high praise on Celtic’s Liel Abada following his recent display for the Bhoys.

Having moved to the top of the table this past week following their 3-0 victory over their Glasgow rivals, Ange Postecoglou’s men kept up that momentum to maintain their place at the summit with a 4-0 victory away to Motherwell.

Abada, who is valued at £4.05 million (as per Transfermarkt), was instrumental with the role that he played on the day, scoring the opener just before the half-hour mark, as well as providing the assists for both of Tom Rogic’s strikes at Fir Park.

On top of that, he also completed 82% of his passes, which included three key passes on his way to an 8.44 rating – the second-highest of anyone on the pitch, only behind the aforementioned Rogic (all stats via WhoScored).

His performance led Dornan to take to Twitter to shower him with praise, even going so far as to compare part of his game to that of a Celtic legend along the way:

Is Liel Abada an automatic starter for Celtic now?

Dornan’s comments are quite the statement indeed, especially when you consider the impact that Bobby Lennox had at the club. With 277 goals in 586 appearances for the Bhoys, and a member of the famous Lisbon Lions team of 1967, he certainly has his place in Celtic folklore well and truly established.

Although, you just hope that a comment like this doesn’t end up putting too much pressure on Abada to perform from here on out.

With 14 goals and 11 assists during his time at Celtic, he certainly has made an impressive start since joining the club last summer, but at 20 years of age, he’s still growing when it comes to his footballing career. Hopefully, a comment like this won’t have too much of an impact as he continues to try and make his mark at Celtic Park.
