Tottenham Hotspur secured a trip to Middlesbrough in the fifth round of the famous FA Cup after a comfortable victory over fellow Premier League side Brighton on Saturday night.

Spurs took a 2-0 lead thanks to a goal from star striker Harry Kane before an own goal from Solly March doubled the lead for Antonio Conte’s side. Yves Bissouma pulled one back in the second half for the south coast side, providing a nervous time for the Spurs faithful.

Have Spurs signed enough players?

Thankfully for the hosts, Kane was on hand to respond sharply, restoring a two goal cushion for Spurs with what was the last goal of the tie.

At 3-1, Conte turned to new signing Rodrigo Bentancur to control the game and see it out comfortably for the hosts – something he did effectively with a 90% pass accuracy, losing possession just once.

Don Hutchison for the BBC referred to the performance of the Uruguayan in his live commentary late on Saturday night: “Antonio Conte wants control in games. He has been searching for it over the past six games or so; Spurs are very, very good going forward but they don’t control games particularly well in the closing stages. That is what Conte had at Inter and why players like Bentancur have come in.”

If Conte is able to build a squad with similar qualities to his Inter Milan one, it could be exciting times ahead for the Spurs faithful.

He was incredibly successful at the San Siro, guiding Inter to the league title and winning his fourth Serie A crown. Conte also has experience of winning in England, securing the Premier League and FA Cup with Chelsea.

The signing of Bentancur could be a sign of what Conte is building at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It could only be a matter of time until the Italian has Spurs competing with the big boys once again.
