TalkSport presenter Jim White has voiced his thoughts on Twitter following Tottenham Hotspur confirming the signing of Rodrigo Bentancur.

The north London club completed two signings on Monday in the form of Bentancur and his teammate from Juventus, Dejan Kulusevski.

White believes the addition of the central midfielder should please Antonio Conte after his first transfer window at Spurs saw one of his key areas addressed.

On Twitter, White said: “Conte should be happy with this……”

Bentancur arrives at Hotspur Way on a four-and-a-half-year deal which will see his contractual stay at Spurs through until 2026, having spent just under five years with the Old Lady.

Spurs saw a number of their midfielders depart on Monday’s Deadline Day, with Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli all finding new clubs.

Despite being allowed to leave Juventus, Bentancur had played a big role in the first half of their 2021/22 campaign, with 24 appearances across Serie A and the Champions League (via Transfermarkt).

With White believing the signing of the 24-year-old will please Conte, it will be interesting to see who may make way for the Uruguayan in the Spurs midfield.

TIF Thoughts on Bentancur to Spurs…

Having spent two seasons with Inter, we would like to think Conte would be aware of what the former Juventus midfielder is capable of.

Juventus lifted the title in Conte’s first season with the Nerazzurri, in which Bentancur made 30 appearances in Serie A alone, where he provided eight assists (via Transfermarkt).

Conte was reportedly hoping to bring in a new central midfielder this month and it seems he has acquired one who he and Fabio Paratici should have a good understanding of from their time in Italy, so White may well be right to suggest the Spurs boss will be proud of getting this deal done on the final day of the window.

  • Tony Borg says:

Jim considering Conte wanted an attacking central midfielder and Bentancur is another defensive midfielder, I wouldn’t think he’s that happy about it. The Spurs fans aren’t.
