Wolves journalist Liam Keen has given his views on Ryan Giles and his loan move away from the club on Deadline Day.

Wolves were certainly busy over the course of the January transfer window, with a number of incomings and outgoings taking place – predominantly the latter in the form of loan deals.

Fitness issues plagued Silvio's career, but where did Wolves sign him from?

One such deal was for defender Giles, who sealed a move to Championship side Blackburn Rovers having been recalled by Bruno Lage from his spell at another second-tier side in Cardiff City. Giles had actually done well in south Wales, racking up nine assists, which places him amongst the best providers in the division.

And speaking on the Express and Star YouTube channel on Monday, Keen discussed the move, claiming that it wasn’t a total certainty Giles would leave during the window and that the feeling inside the club is that he has a bright future ahead of him.

He said: “A great move for him; Blackburn are second in the Championship, flying high. He got nine assists in the first half of the season at Cardiff and clearly was having a great impact on the Championship, so a good move for him.

“A very close one, that, as well, because Bruno was a big fan of him. That was obvious just from speaking to Bruno about Ryan, but from what I’m led to believe as well, it was a close call between keeping him there and sending him away, and there’s hopes that next season, potentially in the summer, he could challenge and go on and do good things.”

Have you been impressed with Wolves so far this season?

It certainly does sound like things are working out for Giles, who has essentially got himself a bit of a promotion in terms of the team he’ll be playing for, as he has rocketed up the Championship table by joining Tony Mowbray’s side.

And hopefully he is able to continue the form he has shown in the first half of the season with his new side. If he is able to, then it could provide a problem for Wolves boss Lage next season, as Keen hints at.

Left-back is a position they are stacked in at the moment, with the likes of Rayan Ait-Nouri, who the club signed to a five-year deal last year; Jonny Otto, who still hasn’t been able to prove himself under Lage following his injury; and Marçal, who has been pretty prominent at stages this season.

Obviously, it’s a good problem to have with so many options at your disposal, but it will be interesting to see how the battle plays out when the summer comes around.
