Journalist Dean Jones believes that Mauricio Pochettino could be the man to replace Antonio Conte if he walks away from the Tottenham Hotspur job.

Tottenham travelled to Burnley on Wednesday evening and were poor in their display, when they disappointingly lost 1-0.

This loss came at the wrong time for Spurs, as top-four challengers Arsenal beat Wolves 2-1, meaning they now sit six points behind their rivals.

Conte’s side now sit in 8th place in the Premier League table and have won just one out of their previous six league games, which has slowly seen them slip further away from a Champions League spot.

When asked about a potential replacement for Conte, insider Jones believes that there could “potentially” be interest from Spurs in rehiring former manager Pochettino if the Italian boss walked.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “Where do Tottenham turn if Conte was to walk away? Pochettino, potentially a guy they would be turning back to.”

TIF Thoughts on the Spurs manager situation…

Considering the lack of business done by Spurs in recent seasons, meaning that Conte may not have the players available to achieve his aims, there can be little blame on the Italian for not producing results week in, week out based on his first few months.

Daniel Levy has persistently been reluctant to put his hand in his pockets and spend, which has led to a lack of success on the field, consequently leading to big players, such as Harry Kane, to want out.

There are just 14 games left in the Premier League for Spurs, so it would be a big ask for a manager to come in and change things around for the north London side considering they already have a successful manager in building, who clearly needs a bit of time to make things right himself.

If Pochettino was to make a return to Tottenham, plenty of fans would certainly be happy because he was a fans’ favourite during his time with the club. However, the problem remains that he wasn’t given sufficient funds to take Spurs to the next step, so why would it be any different this time around?
