Sport journalist Dean Jones believes that West Ham United are starting to look at Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

O’Brien came through the Terriers academy, and West Ham have joined the list of Premier League sides interested in his signature amid reports he has a £12m release clause.

The 23-year-old has been a mainstay in the side, featuring 32 times in the Championship so far, according to SofaScore.

Jones gave his thoughts on a potential move, telling GiveMeSport: “I know West Ham are also starting to look at him right now, only a watching brief at this stage, but more and more clubs are being alerted to the fact that he can handle so many different kinds of situations.”

TIF Thoughts on Lewis O’Brien…

It is clear that O’Brien has talent, having been linked with moves to the Premier League, but the Terriers may be kicking themselves after putting a £12m release clause on their academy graduate, given as more clubs become interested, a potential bidding war could have seen them sell at a higher price.

O’Brien is someone who lacks no stamina as he has featured in 32 out of the 34 Championship games that Huddersfield have had this campaign. The question just lies as to whether he can make the step up if he joined West Ham, or if he has found his level in the Championship.

Time will tell if he can improve further, and the interest from clubs like West Ham may be due to it being a small gamble due to his relatively low transfer fee, but if it does work out, then Moyes could have found himself a cheap gem.
