Tottenham Hotspur’s Sunday at home was a woeful one. They were put to the sword by Wolverhampton Wanderers who snatched all three points from Antonio Conte’s side with a 2-0 win thanks to an early onslaught.

Both goals came in the opening 18 minutes for the visitors, with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris playing a big part in both of them. Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker were the scorers, making it another three points for Wolves.

The opener came after he parried the ball to Jimenez, but he could probably have caught it to avert the danger. He didn’t and Spurs found themselves a goal down.

He then miscued a pass horrendously which ended up in Dendoncker doubling the lead for the visitors.

Lewis Jones of Sky Sports didn’t hold back on his scathing criticism of Lloris at half-time: “Boos from a disgruntled set of home fans. It’s hard to know where to start about just how bad Spurs were defensively in that half. Error after error after error, summed up by an absolute comedy piece of goalkeeping from Hugo Lloris for the opening goal. A World Cup winner, apparently.”

It’s clear to see that Spurs were a shambles at the back, with the £100k-a-week earning Lloris playing more than his fair share in contributing to that according to the Sky Sports.

The result could be detrimental to Tottenham’s season as they slip further down the league to eighth place, falling below Wolves after the result on Sunday afternoon.

While Spurs have games in hand which can help them climb up the table to close the gap to the coveted top four, they will have to rely on other teams to slip up from now if they are to qualify for Europe’s elite competition.
