Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has been speaking on his latest YouTube video to discuss Antonio Conte’s assessment of the January transfer window.

The Lilywhites ended the winter market having brought in two new faces, with Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur arriving from Juventus.

Were you pleased with Tottenham's January business?

No

However, the more significant business was seen in the club’s outgoings, with four players leaving on loan and Dele Alli departing on a permanent deal to Everton.

Going into January, it is believed that Conte had a number of positions he wanted to see Spurs address, with right wing-back and a striker two of them – both of which Spurs did not add to.

With the Italian’s squad now set until the end of the 2021/22 campaign, Gold had the following to say on what he’d heard about Conte’s assessment of his first transfer window at Spurs:

“From what I understand – we’re going to find out more on Friday at the press conference, obviously, he’ll be asked a lot – but from what I understand, I’m told by those around Antonio Conte that he’s content enough with what’s been done thus far.

“All managers will tell you that they want more done in a transfer window, they’re never happy. I think even Jose Mourinho told us that in a press conference a couple of years back. And I understand Conte is no different.

“Of course, he’d always want more, but I am told that he’s content with what’s been done. And specifically, the various things he’s asked for have been kind of done.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs’ window…

The January window is notoriously a difficult window to operate in and we think, on the whole, that was evident at Tottenham with just about all of their business happening on the final day.

In terms of the numbers – two in and five out – it feels the squad has been weakened over the January window.

However, the attitude of the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso have been questioned during their time in north London.

So with those players now out of the dressing room, we do wonder whether that may benefit the squad in a positive way going into the second half of the season with a spot in the top four still very much a possibility.
