Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has slammed the performance of Heung-min Son on Wednesday night as Spurs saw valuable points slip away.

The South Korean winger played the full 90 minutes on Wednesday after a stellar display at the weekend in Tottenham’s impressive victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Who is more important to Spurs?

Hopes of a finish in the top four spots took a big blow at Turf Moor as relegation-battling Burnley were able to hold Antonio Conte’s men to a blank as they earned all three points.

Son returned from his hamstring injury earlier in the month and scored on his return against Southampton, however, Spurs have only won one of the four games in the league since his return.

And Son has had a big impact on the Tottenham side this season, with nine goals and six assists in the Premier League alone, however, it was apparent Gold was not impressed with his display in Lancashire as he awarded Son with a 4/10 rating:

“Struggled for quality in the final third until his free-kick found Kane after the break with the striker hitting the woodwork. An off night for the South Korean star after his fine display at the weekend. He struggled with his end product,” Gold wrote for football.london.

TIF Thoughts on Son’s display…

Gold is absolutely correct in saying the South Korean lacked quality in the final third given he failed to register a single shot throughout the game and only one of his two crosses were successfully delivered.

It was a quiet night for the 29-year-old on the whole with just 39 touches, which is a stark contrast to the 72 touches Burnley’s Dwight McNeil had in the game.

However, he perhaps wasn’t as bad as he’s been made out to be, winning 4/5 duels, completing all of his dribbles and making four key passes (all via SofaScore).

Perhaps Spurs are struggling with the number of games they are now having to catch up on with regular midweek fixtures, however, they do not have time to dwell on the result as they kick off the weekend’s league action in Saturday’s early kick-off at Elland Road.

And anything less than a win against Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United would surely put Spurs another step away from the Champions League spots.
