Injury expert Ben Dinnery has given his thoughts on the situation surrounding Wesley Fofana at Leicester City ahead of their Europa Conference League clash.

Having been bounced out of the Europa League earlier in the campaign, the Foxes have been given a second chance when it comes to European glory this season with the Europa Conference League. It also represents their last chance to have any sort of joy this season given their showing in the Premier League.

To kick off this quiz on Leicester City's 2019/20 season, who is the only outfield player to have appeared in all 38 of the Foxes' Premier League games in the 2019/20 campaign?

They enter the second leg against Danish side Randers in a pretty comfortable position having defeated them 4-1 in the first leg last week, but given some of the performances they’ve put up this season, that first-leg victory is far from a guarantee of qualification into the next stage.

To get through the game in Denmark, they’ll have to do it without French defender Fofana, who is still on the mend following his broken leg that he sustained during pre-season. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Dinnery claimed that he was on the way back and would be with the team soon, but that their clash tonight would be a little too soon.

He said: “Maybe a little bit too soon for Wesley Fofana. He only re-joined the group last Friday, but certainly is getting very close.”

Do Leicester need to sign a striker this summer?

The injury to Fofana has meant that he’s been sorely missed for the Foxes this season, because he was one of their most important players last season, as the stats show.

Not only did he manage to average 1.8 tackles per game, but he ranked second in the side for interceptions with 2.2, led them in blocks with 0.6 and was joint-leader in aerial duels won with 3.3 (via WhoScored). So it’s no surprise that his absence has played a part in the Foxes’ overall struggles this season.

So hearing that he is in the final stages of getting back to full fitness should come as a promising update, because whether it’s for the rest of their European campaign should they make it through tonight, or just for the remainder of the Premier League, they are going to need him if they are to avoid dropping any further down the table.
