Antonio Conte is a big fan of Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Davinson Sanchez, despite his recent form, according to Alasdair Gold.

The Spurs correspondent was speaking of the Italian’s options in defence on his latest YouTube video following their recent defeat at the weekend.

Should Sanchez be dropped on Saturday?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Tottenham found themselves two goals behind after just 18 minutes last Sunday against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with both goals leaving the Spurs defence with egg on their face.

And Sanchez was slammed by Gold following the game for his display in north London, as the Spurs reporter awarded the Colombian with a 4/10 rating for the game.

With a big game against Manchester City coming up this weekend, Gold had an interesting take to provide on Conte’s thoughts on Sanchez.

He said: “You look at that back three that’s currently playing and… Conte likes Davinson Sanchez, he likes him a lot. He just feels that there’s that little bit of concentration is the thing stopping him from being a top player.

“But he was bad. He was bad on Sunday, and I’m someone that doesn’t join in the Davinson Sanchez bandwagon pile-on because I do, same as Conte, I’ve always said that I think he’s got all the attributes to be a top defender, it’s just the mental thing that does it. But he was making some really sloppy errors on Sunday.”

TIF Thoughts on Sanchez starting…

This weekend will be interesting to see how Conte chooses to use his squad, with Eric Dier expected to return to the Italian’s options after his recent injury issue.

Cristian Romero has also returned from his injury problem and impressed immediately during his comeback game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

So if Dier and Romero are potentially two of the three starting centre-backs, will Conte drop Ben Davies for the Colombian, or will he not risk Sanchez on the left side of the defence? Only time will tell.
