Tottenham Hotspur could be boosted by the return of Eric Dier on the weekend for their next Premier League clash following his spell on the sidelines through injury.

That is according to the reliable Alasdair Gold, who was speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast ahead of their game against Manchester City at the weekend.

Have Spurs missed Dier over the last month?

Dier has been out of action for around a month with a muscular issue, but Gold believes the Englishman should be set to make his return on the weekend.

The 28-year-old has been stepping up his recovery process recently having shown himself working in the gym on the day of their latest defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

With the Lilywhites slipping in the race for the top four over the weekend, Gold had the following to say on the potential boost for Conte when questioning Joe Rodon’s chances of playing under the Italian:

“I just wonder now, whether his [Joe Rodon] window of opportunity – which never really existed, because Conte didn’t play him – is already going to close.

“Because I think Eric Dier, you’d think, should be fit for the City game. It’s not a definite, but certainly with the timeframes we’ve been given, it should be that we’ll see Dier back, and that’s Rodon’s chance gone.”

TIF Thoughts on Eric Dier’s return…

Having Dier return for the game against Pep Guardiola’s men should be a huge boost for Antonio Conte’s side given their recent defensive record.

Without the 28-year-old, the Lilywhites have been unable to keep a clean sheet and have lost three of their four Premier League games (via Transfermarkt).

And the opposition will not get much tougher than City at the Etihad Stadium, with Guardiola’s men the joint-top scorers this season with 61 goals in the Premier League.

Nine of Spurs’ 29 goals conceded in the league this season have come in the last month without Dier, so his return should act as a huge confidence boost for all involved.
