Gary Neville has been speaking on his podcast about how confident he is that Newcastle United will avoid relegation.

The Magpies have handed themselves a great chance of staying in the Premier League beyond the end of the season recently, as they have won three games in a row, lifting them out of the relegation zone and creating daylight between them and the bottom three – even if Burnley win their games in hand.

Will Eddie Howe keep Newcastle up?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Newcastle recorded their first win of the season against a side not in the bottom six of the Premier League when they beat Aston Villa on Sunday and picked up their third clean sheet in the process.

Neville, who was commentating on the game, believes that the Magpies will not be relegated this season.

“This place has been absolutely depressing for a long time, it’s been awful. In fact, I’ve not enjoyed coming up here at all – woeful football, spiritless in the sense of the club disconnect from the top with the owner, and now this feels like something.

“Look, they’re still near the bottom of the league, but I’ve got no doubts, that performance today that I’ve seen from Newcastle doesn’t leave them in a relegation battle this season – they’ll get out of it, I’m sure.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s survival chances…

The Magpies are currently sitting on 21 points, four above Norwich who are 18th in the Premier League, and while Newcastle still have star signing Bruno Guimaraes to come into the starting lineup, the loss of Kieran Trippier could be a monster blow for them, so there will still be plenty of nerves and doubters going forward about their survival chances.

Newcastle still have to play Burnley, Brentford, Everton and Norwich all away from home, which could be turning points and potentially season-defining games for any of the sides down at the bottom of the division, so while Newcastle have the momentum and new signings, they are by no means safe, as fortunes can change very quickly.
