Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has claimed Sergio Reguilon could be involved in the matchday squad for Wednesday night.

The Spanish left-back was absent from the win on Saturday evening having to self-isolate earlier in the week, meaning he had to watch the game from home.

Have you been impressed with Reguilon?

And with Spurs travelling back up north for their next Premier League clash against Burnley on Wednesday, Gold believes the 25-year-old could be involved in Antonio Conte’s squad.

In the Spaniard’s absence, Conte brought Ryan Sessegnon back into the team, having taken the youngster off after just 28 minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Spurs have a heavy fixture load to contend with over the next few weeks, with a lot of away trips to the north, and with this in mind, Gold had the following to say on a possible return for Reguilon:

“Obviously, if you weren’t aware, Sergio Reguilon unfortunately tested positive for [the virus]. He might be back for Burnley.

“I’d imagine he would be, with the five-day rule now. He should be fine, but it’s more if he’s got any little symptoms kind of hanging around or little after-effects that, you know, certainly I know I’ve had a few of those since having [the virus].

“Whether they just give Sess another start – I think he earned it.”

TIF Thoughts on Sergio Reguilon’s absence…

After the display on Saturday evening, we do not think there will be many Spurs fans who will be left gutted if Reguilon is unable to return for the trip to Turf Moor.

Gold was also left impressed with 21-year-old Sessegnon, with the journalist praising the Englishman for his defending at times in the game against Manchester City.

Although Reguilon is now playing in a more advanced role under Conte, the Spaniard provided more assists in the Premier League under Nuno Espirito Santo (via Transfermarkt).

The wing-back position has been a problematic area for Conte since he has arrived, however, we do not think Reguilon has exactly pulled up trees under the Italian, with just one assist to his name since the manager’s arrival.
