Newcastle United made it four wins from their last six after seeing off Brentford 2-0 on Saturday afternoon, sending them 14th in the table, one place above Brentford.

The game was likely to be going one way after the hosts saw Josh Dasilva sent off after only 11 minutes for a horror challenge, with Newcastle not looking back before pushing home their advantage.

They opened the scoring through Joelinton before a Joe Willock strike doubled the lead before the interval. Eddie Howe’s side then saw the game out for a professional 2-0 win, never looking under any threat. There was a lovely moment when we got to see Christian Eriksen back playing professional football after his horrendous ordeal in the Euros.

Journalist Luke Edwards was impressed with the performances of both goal scorers, going on social media to say: “Huge win for #nufc, putting clubs as well as points between themselves and the relegation zone which is critical. Delighted for both Big and Little Joe who’ve had the problems and now thriving under Eddie Howe.

Both Joelinton and Willock had struggled under Steve Bruce earlier in the season, with the latter in particular suffering a goal drought after his permanent switch from Arsenal in the summer.

The Magpies now sit four points clear of the drop and are on a great run of form, seeing them go from rock bottom to 14th in what seems no time at all.

While some teams around the Magpies do have some games in hand on them, the form is heavily in favour of Newcastle United, suggesting that they’ll be more than ok still when other teams catch up. It will be some escape from the last side in the division to register a win!
