Newcastle United should be boosted by the return of Allan Saint-Maximin following his injury issue that kept him out in their recent draw.

That is according to the Toon correspondent Lee Ryder, who was speaking all things related to the Tyneside club on a Facebook live video.

Should ASM start on Saturday against Brentford?

Newcastle’s French winger was forced to sit out the game against West Ham United at the weekend due to a minor calf issue which Eddie Howe claimed was not a serious concern.

Despite the winger’s absence, the Toon were able to secure a big point against David Moyes’ side, which may beg the question of what Howe’s side could’ve done with Saint-Maximin available.

Sitting four points ahead of the relegation zone, Ryder had the following to say on Saint-Maximin ahead of Newcastle’s trip to the capital on the weekend to face Brentford:

“From an injury point of view, looks like Allan Saint-Maximin is going to be fine. He was left out on a precautionary basis with a calf knock. Probably sensible management from Eddie Howe.

“Easy to say that now after the game because they got a point, but probably sensible management from his point of view just to give him a little rest.”

TIF Thoughts on Saint-Maximin’s potential return…

This update will come as welcome news to the Newcastle fans given the 24-year-old has provided eight goal involvements in the league this season (via Transfermarkt).

And with Callum Wilson also sidelined, the Frenchman is Howe’s next top scorer, having netted five goals in the Premier League.

The game at the weekend against Brentford has the potential to be a real statement for the Toon, as a win would take them above Thomas Frank’s side in the table with two games in hand.
