Newcastle United have recently received the news that January signing Kieran Trippier will be sidelined due to injury and is set to miss key fixtures.

After a dream start to life back in the Premier League for Trippier, he picked up a foot injury, which has been labelled as a ‘big blow’ for Newcastle by journalist Dean Jones.

The England international returned to the Premier League in the recent January transfer window and has helped Newcastle secure back-to-back wins against Everton and Aston Villa. In both matches, he scored free kicks at crucial points of the game.

Jones told GiveMeSport, “It’s a disaster for them. I know that they feared when they signed him that he hasn’t played a lot of football this season, he hadn’t had regular game time, and that there might be times in the season when he suffers muscular problems. But this is different.”

TIF Thoughts on Kieran Trippier’s injury and what this means for Newcastle…

Jones’ comments suggest that while the club may have expected fitness issues with Trippier somewhere down the line, to lose him in this manner seems to be pure bad luck.

The recent news that Trippier is set to miss a period of games due to injury is a nightmare for Newcastle after they have just started to gain momentum, and these types of setbacks could really put a halt to the team’s form.

The 31-year-old’s game against Aston Villa on Sunday was cut short due to the foot injury that he picked up, but initially, the injury didn’t seem too bad as he was able to walk off with no stretcher required.

Although it is unclear as to the extent of the injury, the fact that he has been told an X-ray will need to be taken is not great news for Eddie Howe.

This injury will mean that replacement full-back Emil Krafth will have to step in and fill the boots of Trippier until he is deemed fit enough to play.

Not only will this affect the defensive stability for Howe’s side, but Trippier will be missed on the attacking front as well, due to his great ability from set pieces.
