After the game, Rio Ferdinand was full of praise for Eddie Howe and what he’s done, highlighting the transformation in Joelinton.
On BT Sport’s coverage of the game, he had the following to say: “When a new manager comes in you expect a bounce and stuff but he’s [Eddie Howe] maintained that. He’s actually got a team now, we spoke about the culture. He’s created a culture in there where now they feel like they’re part of something where there could be positivity come the end of the season.
“I think Joelinton’s a fantastic example of what he’s now instilled in this squad. These players have got a belief in themselves as individuals but most importantly as a collective. They now believe they can get results.”
It’s certainly been an up and down season for Joelinton, who is making the midfield his own after being converted to that position by Howe. He’s been picking up plaudits week in week out recently with his inspired performances.

In the 90 minutes, he only lost the ball seven times, showing how reliable he was with the ball at his feet in the middle of the park.
The result now edges Newcastle slightly closer to safety, picking up a point against a Champions League hunting team is always a bonus away from home. Howe’s side now have five points between themselves and the drop zone, meaning they have their own fate firmly in their own hands as things stand.
