Newcastle United loanee Jeff Hendrick didn’t have the best of performances for his current side this past weekend.

Hendrick was certainly someone who struggled to get into the Newcastle side earlier in the season, only making three appearances in the league for Steve Bruce and Eddie Howe, appearing very much as an afterthought.

It was no surprise, then, to see that during the winter of change at St. James’ Park, he found himself heading through the exit door, moving on loan to Championship side Queens Park Rangers, where he has already managed to rack up three appearances across the league and FA Cup.

His most recent performance against Barnsley, though, was certainly one to forget for the Irishman. Mark Warburton’s men suffered a blow in their promotion hopes as they fell 1-0 to the Championship’s bottom side.

As per SofaScore, he lost possession nine times on the day, wasn’t able to complete a single successful dribble and won just one of his four ground duels before being taken off midway through the second half on 62 minutes.

Interestingly, he was given a 6/10 rating for his performance by West London Sport.

Newcastle United are going through a period of change right now following their takeover, with their transactions in January an indicator of what their future could look like as they aim to match the owners’ ambitious plans.

And whilst Hendrick was shunted out of the club in January, with his contract expiring in 2024, there is still a chance that he could play his way into the club’s plans moving forward with a good spell on loan in Championship.

However, it doesn’t look like that’s going to be happening for him based on his most recent performance, so he may need to buck his ideas up if he wants to be part of Newcastle and their grand plans in the coming years.
