Liam Kennedy took to Twitter to claim that it’s more than just money spent which has seen Eddie Howe turn around Newcastle United’s fortunes.

Newcastle currently have the second-best form in the Premier League, only behind Liverpool over the last six games, with the Toon going seven unbeaten in the league, while their last two results have come without trio Allan Saint-Maximin, Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson.

Should Howe win Manager of the Month?

The Magpies were the biggest spenders throughout the Premier League during the January transfer window, so it may be easy to say that they’ve spent their way out of trouble, however, as Alan Shearer has pointed out by picking Ryan Fraser and Joelinton in his Team of the Week, Howe’s getting a lot out of players that were at the club when he arrived.

Kennedy has backed Howe on Twitter, claiming that it’s much more about the manager than ‘blank chequebooks’ which has Newcastle where they are.

TIF Thoughts on Howe at Newcastle…

There’s no getting away from the fact that Newcastle’s ability to splash out close to £100 million in January has clearly boosted their chances of survival in the Premier League, however, their current unbeaten run stretches back to before the transfer window opened, so Howe’s clearly been slowly but surely starting to get a tune out of his players.

Under former manager Steve Bruce, Newcastle failed to win a game in any competition, which had them seemingly facing an inevitable drop into the Championship, and now under Howe they’ve gone seven unbeaten and picked up five wins in total despite having their star striker out injured for this entire run, which proves Howe should be given credit for what he’s managed to get out of this squad.
