Former Premier Leauge referee Dermot Gallagher has been speaking on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch about what Chris Wood allegedly did when next to Kurt Zouma at the weekend.
The Newcastle United January signing has had a tough time of things since moving to Tyneside having now gone five games without a goal, however, his presence and ability as a focal point has coincided with the Magpies’ stunning run of recent form, with the Toon going six games unbeaten.

Wood, who started and played another full 90 minutes for Newcastle, reportedly spent a lot of the game ‘meowing’ whenever he was stood near Kurt Zouma, alluding to the shocking video of what the French defender did to his pet earlier this month.
Gallagher was left shocked by what Wood allegedly did during the match, claiming: “I find this hard to believe, to be honest. I just can’t believe that a player did that, but if a referee hears it, he can have a quiet word with the player, ask him not to, but it’s not really something to get too involved with, to be honest.”

Whatever Wood was doing, it appeared to work, as Newcastle enjoyed a good game at the London Stadium, racking up more shots and as many on target, while also dominating possession, so it clearly unsettled Zouma as well as the West Ham team in general, which is highlighted by the fact it was a teammate that eventually reported it to the referee.
However, something that Newcastle fans may say is that Wood should be focusing on his own game and improving that instead of trying to drag the opposition players down to his level.
