Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has sent a glowing review on Twitter to Kieran Trippier after his game-winning free-kick in midweek.

The Magpies managed to record back-to-back wins last night when they brushed aside fellow relegation rivals Everton with help from Trippier, who sealed all three points with a magnificent free-kick.

Will Newcastle be relegated?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Trippier has been a regular under Eddie Howe since he arrived early in the January transfer window, with his leadership and experience going to be key to helping the Magpies fight off relegation.

It’s clearly not just Howe that recognises how great and valuable Trippier is for the Magpies, but record goalscorer Alan Shearer does, too. The former striker took to Twitter to share his delight with the full-back’s performance, saying: ‘He was superb last night. Hope he’s fit for Sunday.’

TIF Thoughts on Kieran Trippier…

The last part of Shearer’s tweet will likely resonate with the Newcastle fanbase, as the full-back was taken off near the end of the match with what appeared to be a muscular injury, but considering he did post-match interviews with the club’s in-house media channel, hopes will be that he can be fit enough for Sunday’s clash against Aston Villa.

It was a major coup for Newcastle to land someone with Premier League experience and fresh off the back of winning La Liga with Atletico Madrid, and while he was not the most glamorous signing of the window, he could well prove to be the most astute piece of business given his presence both on and off the pitch, coupled with his undeniable ability from set pieces.

One of arguably the most eye-catching stats in Newcastle’s clash with Everton was the fact that Trippier had a whopping 71 touches, which is over twice as many as Allan Saint-Maximin, who had just 33.

So his effect on the team is clear to see, and the Magpies could well miss him if he is to spend any time on the sidelines as a result of his injury last night.
