Journalist Andrew Musgrove has been left very impressed with Bruno Guimaraes following his first interview since joining Newcastle United.

The Brazilian international faced the media for the first time yesterday afternoon and was asked about several different topics, from players he likened himself to, to whether he believed Newcastle could get away from the drop-zone – answering yes to the latter, claiming he wouldn’t have joined if he didn’t think so.

Can Guimaraes keep Newcastle up?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

However, before he got to speak to the local and national media, he spoke with Newcastle’s in-house media channel and claimed that he really doesn’t like to lose, which has left Musgrove singing his praises.

Guimaraes spoke about his hatred towards defeat, saying: ‘I can’t stand losing, I get annoyed with any type of defeat, on and off the pitch. I’m obsessed with winning.’ This left Musgrove feeling euphoric, claiming: ‘That’s the sort of attitude you love to see.’

TIF Thoughts on Guimaraes…

Considering Newcastle have won just two games across three competitions this season, Guimaraes’ obsession with winning will come as a much-needed boost, and an injection of positivity and desire to pick up three points to Eddie Howe’s squad.

Guimaraes appeared to have been a major coup for Newcastle given that the likes of Arsenal and Juventus were also reportedly tracking the midfielder, and Eddie Howe will surely be hoping that his talent and ability to progress and retain the ball from midfield – he ranked inside the top five for this during his time in Ligue 1 this season (as per FBRef) – can help the Magpies find a new style and way of playing.

Therefore, when everything is considered about Guimaraes’ ability as a player and Newcastle’s woeful campaign thus far, it’s no surprise that Musgrove, presumably like a lot of fans, is in love with these few words.
