West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has been discussing the club’s plans for the summer transfer window and what effect Daniel Kretinsky will have on their activity.

West Ham were rather quiet when it came to their business in January. They didn’t make any singings, with the only exits being those of fringe players being sent out on loan.

There will need to be some moves made this summer, though, with the likes of Mark Noble and possibly Lukasz Fabianski requiring replacements as their contracts are set to expire this summer, whilst the club may also need to bolster some positions that they don’t have a lot of depth in such as centre-back and centre-forward.

Which defender born in 1985 used to play for West Ham's academy?

Speaking on the latest edition of The West Ham Way podcast, Ex revealed exactly what the plans were for the summer transfer window and what role Kretinsky – who purchased 27% of the club back in November – will have on the dealings. He revealed that things might not be so smooth for the Hammers from a financial standing.

He said: “Kretinsky has said to the club that he will invest money in the summer for transfers, but he’s gonna do similar to what [David] Gold and Sullivan have done in the past and do it as a loan – like a loan to the club with interest. So it’ll be interesting to see how fans take to that, because that’s basically what Gold and Sullivan do.

“And the fans don’t like it because they charge interest to the club. Not the going interest I think they could get from a bank, but they still do charge interest. So Kretinsky’s apparently going to do that to give us extra money in the summer.”

Will West Ham's lack of transfers cost them top six?

No

If what Ex is saying here is correct, it looks as if West Ham will certainly be prioritising what they want to do in this transfer window and then look to push the financial burden of it when it comes to interest further down the line.

This does sound risky, but given where the Hammers are now – on the verge of becoming a perennial challenger for European football after both last season’s finish and how well they’ve done so far this year – it’s a risk worth taking.

Because whilst they might spend big this year, if it means that they are continually going to be near the top of the table, earning income from Premier League prize money and possible European runs, they’ll be able to make that money back in no time.

So whilst Ex hints that fans might not like the way it’s been done by Gold and Sullivan in the past, if it means that they can get success out of it, then it shouldn’t really be seen as a problem for them in the long run.
