Sky Sports producer Henry Hill has been speaking on the Football Daily YouTube channel about the refereeing decision which went Liverpool’s way last weekend.

Despite taking almost an hour to make the breakthrough, Liverpool managed to progress into the fifth round of the FA Cup after beating Cardiff City 3-1, which included Harvey Elliott’s first appearance since his shocking injury sustained last year and also saw him net his first goal for the club.

Should Kelleher have been sent off?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

However, it was not entirely comfortable for Liverpool, as backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher suffered a scary moment when he came rushing out of his goal, only to swipe down a Cardiff player and somehow managed to only receive a yellow card.

Hill can’t believe that the referee didn’t show Kelleher a red card.

“I will say Liverpool should have had 10 men on the pitch, there’s no way the goalie should have stayed on after sprinting out to take out the player. I’m amazed that decision didn’t go their way.”

TIF Thoughts on the decision involving Liverpool ‘keeper Caoimhin Kelleher…

Quite simply, it was a rather bizarre decision from the referee and the VAR team to not see Kelleher’s challenge as a denial of a goalscoring opportunity and thus, they should’ve been reduced to 10 men, in our view.

At the time, the Bluebirds were holding Liverpool out with the score 0-0 and could have potentially gone on to make it a very difficult afternoon. Had Kelleher not got away with it, the Championship could yet have found themselves dominating more of the ball and making their extra man advantage count, however, in the end, Liverpool’s quality shone through and it saw them safely through to the next round.
