Fabrizio Romano has featured on the latest transfer video from the Que Golazo YouTube channel to discuss his expectations on whether Douglas Luiz will remain an Aston Villa player over the summer.

Speaking on the transfer show, Romano insisted he was not convinced the 23-year-old will still be playing at Villa Park come the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

Would you sell Luiz in the summer?

The future of the Brazilian midfielder was in some doubt during the January transfer window, with Tottenham Hotspur believed to have shown some interest in the latter stages of the month.

Luiz has been a regular feature in the Villa midfield this season with 17 appearances in the Premier League alone, in which he has been able to provide three assists (via Transfermarkt).

Having seen his Villa future questioned in January, Romano had the following to say on what the summer could bring for Luiz and his time at Villa:

“I also have the feeling that I’m not 100% sure that Douglas Luiz will stay at the club in the summer. So this is why maybe they will need to sign two players in the midfield. But it depends on the proposals they will receive for Douglas Luiz, but I’m not 100% sure he will stay.”

TIF Thoughts on Luiz’s future…

Luiz’s future was speculated over during the month of January, and the summer will mark the final year of the 23-year-old’s current contract with Villa.

Villa were linked with Rodrigo Bentancur last month, however, with the midfielder now playing for Tottenham, we are interested to see what effect that may have on Luiz in the summer.

But if the Brazilian is still looking to leave after this season, we feel Steven Gerrard should be allowing him to do so, with it being their last real opportunity to earn some funds on their asset.

And with Gerrard in charge, we think the attraction of being managed by one of the Premier League’s great midfielders will help the Villans attract an adequate potential replacement for Luiz.
