Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Liverpool ‘might’ be set to join the race for England star Declan Rice’s signature this summer.

Several clubs have been keeping tabs on Rice in the last 18 months, and reports are stating that he could on his way out of West Ham in the summer.

As per The Telegraph, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are the current sides who have openly shown an interest in signing the 22-year-old, and Jones told GiveMeSport that Liverpool can’t afford to not be in the running.

Jones said: “Liverpool might get involved in that conversation if he’s actually on the market, because you can’t let those three be in a conversation that you’re not in if you’re looking to be part of that dominant force over the next five years.”

TIF Thoughts on Liverpool potentially being interested in Declan Rice…

Liverpool have been one of the most in-form sides in Europe over the past three seasons, so it is only natural they are going to be linked with signing the top players in world football.

Interestingly, Rice has showered praise over Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara in the past, as he named him as the best player he’s faced and described just how difficult it is to come up against him.

With all their main league rivals being cited as potential suitors for the England midfielder, Liverpool could yet be the next side to show interest in the 22-year-old, as you can see the logic in Jones’ claim.

Rice was a star man in Euro 2020, demolishing any idea that he would not be able to perform at the top level, and this is shown in the interest from the top sides.

The question remains whether Rice would be interested in a move away from West Ham, as they are certainly a club on the rise and are potentially set for their best-ever Premier League finish this campaign.

If a bid was made by United, many pundits have identified this potential transfer as a potential backwards move due to the current position of the two sides. However, a move to Liverpool perhaps makes a lot more sense for the Hammers academy graduate due to the current state of the Reds in terms of success on the pitch.
