The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has delivered a damning claim on Dele Alli on the Transfer Gossip Daily podcast following his move to Everton.

The Toffees managed to fend off late interest from rival Premier League clubs as they secured the permanent signing of Alli, and what makes the deal even better is that it is an initial free transfer until he makes a certain number of appearances.

Will Alli succeed at Everton?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Alli spoke to Sky Sports after he signed for Everton and told them that he wants to be ‘happy playing football‘, which was something he wasn’t doing at Spurs, given he’d started just 15 league games since the beginning of last season.

Edwards believes that Alli has a lot to prove to the fans and the media.

“As regular listeners of this podcast will know, I think he’s still got a lot to offer at 25. I think he’s got problems, I think he’s got issues and he’s got a point to prove.

“He needs to show us – as in the wider public, the media and fans as well – that he’s still the player that we thought he was two or three years ago.”

TIF Thoughts on Dele Alli to Everton…

It was a busy Deadline Day for Everton, which saw them bring in some much-needed cover in midfield with Abdoulaye Doucoure injured. Alli and Donny van de Beek both arrive with a point to prove given they had been shunned to the sidelines in recent times at their former and parent clubs respectively.

Alli had slowly been falling down the pecking order at Tottenham, so having a last-minute Deadline Day opportunity to move away from north London to link up with a former top midfielder in Lampard appears to have been too good to turn down, and it could be a great chance to lift Everton away from the relegation scrap and get himself back into Gareth Southgate’s England thoughts.
